Release notes

FontExplorer X Server version 1.7.1 requires FontExplorer X Pro version 3.5.x for Macintosh or FontExplorer X Pro version 2.3.3 for Windows. It is not compatible with older client versions!

Before updating a server version always make a backup of your server files. You can use the backup function in the server administration section of FontExplorer X Pro.

Important Notes

After updating the FontExplorer X Server version, restart any FontExplorer X Pro clients that were connected to a previous server version before logging in to the new server
When updating FontExplorer X Server version 1.5.x to version 1.7.x in a Master/Slave configuration, be sure to configure and save the domain information for the Master server via the LDAP panel of the client. Thereafter, restart the Slave server so replication occurs and the LDAP configuration changes get copied to the Slave server

Changes in Version 1.7.1

New or Changed Server Features

  • When an LDAP synchronization fails, further attempts will automatically occur at 30 minute intervals. If, after three attempts, it is still not possible to synchronize, an error message will be logged and an e-mail send to the administrator provided the e-mail settings have been configured. On manual synchronization, an error message will be displayed on the client machine that initiated the synchronization command

Resolved

  • Following an update from FontExplorer X Server version 1.5.x to 1.7 it was not possible to download fonts from the server
  • If a scheduled synchronization failed due to an error on the LDAP server, users already imported into FontExplorer X Server were getting deleted
  • After updating from FontExplorer X Server version 1.6.1 to 1.7, it occasionally occurred that the used font license counts were no longer accurate
  • When the FontExplorer X and LDAP servers went into an idle state for an extended period of time (24+ hours) immediately following a synchronization, users were getting deleted from the FontExplorer X Server
  • The FontExplorer X Server crashed and automatically restarted if the LDAP server was unavailable at the time a scheduled synchronization started
  • Configured domains may sporadically disappear from the FontExplorer X LDAP panel if the LDAP server could not be reached
  • The FontExplorer X Server preference pane in System Preferences would occasionally hang (Macintosh only)
  • The port number in the FontExplorer X Server "Slave" panel was displayed incorrectly under OS X 10.8 (Macintosh only)

Known Issues

  • SMTP configuration information is not passed from the Master server to the Slave server during replication. License reports and auto error reporting can therefore not be sent from the Slave server
  • Removing a monitored group from the active directory where all users were already imported into FontExplorer X Server, will not automatically remove the group and its users from the FontExplorer X Server when a scheduled synchronization occurs
  • When FontExplorer X Server has been updated from 1.5.x or 1.6.x, the domain name is not automatically appended to the LDAP imported server group names
  • The FontExplorer X Server occasionally crashes when deleting a server group after updating from 1.5.x to 1.6.x to 1.7.1. This does not occur on a new installation of version 1.7.x
  • Following an upgrade from FontExplorer X Server version 1.5.x to 1.7.1, server users at the LDAP root node will be erroneously deleted when a new root node user is imported. The deleted root node user will show the status "Not Imported" in the LDAP panel
  • The FontExplorer X Server license file (.fsl) can not be imported to a Windows Server 2008 machine when file encryption is active. Workaround: disable file encryption before importing the license file
  • Font Licensing: When a change is made to the available license count on a font it is not reflected by the "Last Modified" date
  • The User "Real Name" may be shown incorrectly in the FontExplorer X Server "Users" panel when the name contains certain accented characters
  • The FontExplorer X Server is unable to access a mapped drive for the destination of server backup files (Windows only)
  • Synchronization may fail when new users are added to a monitored LDAP root node
  • Groups and users deleted on the Active Directory are sometimes not deleted in the FontExplorer X Groups or Users panel following a synchronization
  • The checkbox status of imported users may be incorrectly set after deleting the group in the FontExplorer X Server Groups panel
