We are proud to introduce FontExplorer X Pro 6.0, the latest version of the all-in-one font management solution

  • Important: If upgrading to FontExplorer X Pro 6.0 from a previous version you may need to purchase a license upgrade.
  • If working in a FontExplorer X Server environment, this client version requires FontExplorer X Server version 2.5.1 or later. However, we recommend you update your Server to the new version 3.0 in order to get the most out of all the great new server features. Older FontExplorer X Server versions are not supported.
  • This version of FontExplorer X Pro requires OS X 10.9 or later

Changes in Version 6.0

New Features and Changes

  • FontExplorer X Pro version 6 is ready for macOS 10.12
  • Added Japanese as a user interface language which will automatically be set if your OS language is Japanese. If you would like to work with FontExplorer X Pro in Japanese while your OS is set to another language, please follow these steps:
    1) Quit FontExplorer X Pro if it is running;
    2) Start the Terminal application (/Application/Utilities/Terminal.app);
    3) Enter the following command (without the start and end quote) at the prompt: “defaults write com.linotype.FontExplorerX AppleLanguages "(Japanese)”;” followed by the enter key;
    4) Start FontExplorer X Pro; 5) To reset the language, enter the following command (without the outer quotes) in the Terminal application: “defaults delete com.linotype.FontExplorerX AppleLanguages;”
  • Localised font information (if available in a font) can be shown for the following languages: Arabic, Basque, Catalan, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish. The setting can be turned on in the “General” panel of the FontExplorer X Pro Preferences and the language shown will be determined by the “Preferred language” setting of your OS
  • “Detect Fonts in Documents” has been enhanced to support an additional 19 document types:
    • docx, dotx, pptx, ppsx, potm (Microsoft Office Open XML)
    • odt, fodt, ott, odp, fodp, otp, odg (Open Document)
    • sxw, stw, sxi, sti, sxd (Open Office 1.0)
    • sketch (Sketch)
    • sla (Scribus)
  • Enhancements to the Web Preview include the ability to edit text of elements and change the user agent to simulate various operating systems and browsers
  • Enhanced Font Tile View lets you set the text to the first two letters of the font name, view detailed font information on mouse over, add rounded corners, foreground and background color and even gradually change the background color between the first and last tile by selecting a “blend to” color
  • In addition to exporting font information from the font list as text, it can now be exported from the local or server font list as a CSV document with options for defining the separator and the text encoding
  • Added support for Unicode 9
  • Added menu item “New Set from Selection” to the context menu in the font list
  • Added a new preference setting to the “Import” panel which permits the user to define whether or not a new set is created when importing fonts into FontExplorer X Pro
  • Added the ability to sort by path name in the Conflicts panel
  • The source list can now be expanded to a greater width to aid in viewing long set and folder names or deeply nested folders and sets
  • When updating your version of FontExplorer X Pro a backup of your font database file (FontExplorer X.fexsdb) will automatically be created. The file is located in the directory /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Linotype/FontExplorer X/ and is named “FontExplorer X auto backup xx to yy [date/timestamp].fexdb. xx and yy represent the internal database version number. Should it be necessary to restore a backed up database file, simply rename it to “FontExplorer X.fexdb”
  • Growl notification system has been replaced by OS notifications

Resolved

  • When creating long, complex smart set rules, the “OK” and “Cancel” button were sometimes being hidden behind other user interface elements
  • Not all fonts supporting Turkish, Azerbaijani or Greek languages showed up in the “Language Supports…” smart set
  • Various minor unrelated bug fixes and user interface improvements

FontExplorer X Server 3.x (Win) incl. Client licenses
Requires: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or 2012

From: $1,799.00

FontExplorer X Server 3.0 is now available!

FontExplorer X Server version 3.0 works with the FontExplorer X Pro version 6 for Macintosh or FontExplorer X Pro version 3.5 for Windows. It is not compatible with older client versions! Before updating a server version always make a backup of your server files. You can use the backup function in the server administration section of FontExplorer X Pro

Important Notes

  • When a FontExplorer X Thin Client is running in a server environment it will automatically be detected by the FontExplorer X Server. Therefore the “Thin Client” checkbox has been removed from the Server “General” panel
  • Added Server side support for Mac Client version 6 features:
  • When updating the FontExplorer X Server software, a backup of the server database files will automatically be created in the Server Backups path specified in the Server “General” panel. They can be found in the subfolder “Auto Backup on Update”
  • Applied a new user interface to the Server application (Windows only)
  • FontExplorer X Server for Windows now supports 64-bit architecture

Resolved

  • Server backups that were scheduled to occur on Sundays were not being created
  • When an Organizational Unit (OU), user name or group name was changed in the Active Directory, users were not able to log in to the FontExplorer X Server with their updated credentials. After making an update in the Active Directory, users will now be able to log in while maintaining permissions to Server Sets and membership to Groups. The “Monitor this Group” checkbox needs to be selected before the OU, User or Group is renamed. Afterwards the FontExplorer X Server will need to synchronize with the Active Directory
  • Names containing Scandinavian characters were not displayed correctly in the Users tab of the Server panel (Windows only)
  • When an Administrator disconnected users from the FontExplorer X Server via the “Disconnect All Users” button in the Users panel, clicking the button a second time caused the client used license count to show a negative value (Windows only)
  • Several installer error messages appeared if the FontExplorer X Server software was updated while the application was running (Windows 2012 only)
  • The checkbox status of imported users was occasionally incorrectly set after deleting a group in the FontExplorer X Server Groups panel
  • Bei forcierter Replikation aus der Ansicht des Master-Servers wurde gelegentlich anstelle der prozentualen Fortschrittsanzeige nur die Meldung „Gestartet / Abgeschlossen“ eingeblendet (nur Mac)

Known Issues

  • Font Licensing: When a change is made to the available license count on a font it is not reflected by the “Last Modified” date
