  • When the Adobe Plug-Ins were installed by FontExplorer X Pro they did not have the same permissions as the parent folder

PlugIns

Known issues

  • Missing fonts are not detected in Illustrator PDF files and no font request occurs
  • No font request occurs on EPS documents with non-embedded fonts

  • Imported LDAP users are not shown in Account Management and status shows "not imported" if before completing the import process a source list item is selected, the changes in the LDAP panel saved, then return to the LDAP panel and complete the import process
  • If a nested LDAP Security Group name contains special characters such as *, /, ( or ) then the users inside the nested group are not shown

Release notes

System Requirements

FontExplorer X Pro Client has been optimized for Microsoft Windows® Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 and requires .Net framework 4.5. It runs on both 32-bit as well as on 64-bit Windows Systems. Supported languages include English, German and French.

If working in a FontExplorer X Server environment, this client version requires FontExplorer X Server version 1.9 or later. However, we recommend you update your server to the latest version 2.0.x in order to get the most out of all the great new server features. Older FontExplorer X Server versions are not supported.

Version 3.0

New

  • Added support for Windows 10
  • Online Help – The new online help provides easy access to topic based information
  • Font Store Integration – Fonts.com, Linotype.com, MyFonts.com, FontShop.com and Membership by Monotype have been integrated into FontExplorer X Pro. This feature enables you to purchase fonts directly within FontExplorer X Pro. Stores can be shown or hidden in the source list via new controls in the ribbon
  • New Plug-Ins – Updated Plug-Ins now support auto-activation for QuarkXPress 2015 and Adobe Creative Cloud 2015 InCopy, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop applications
  • Cloud Fonts – FontExplorer X Pro now supports Adobe Typekit fonts and Monotype SkyFonts. Typekit and SkyFonts have separate entries under "Cloud Fonts" in the source list. All the FontExplorer X Pro features such as activation, deactivation, preview, organizing in Sets and Folder, etc. can be applied to Cloud Fonts. Typeset and SkyFonts options in the source list can be shown or hidden via new controls in the ribbon
  • Added the ability to view the full path of Fonts in the Small Information Panel as well as the Font Information Dialog (“Contained in” information)

Resolved

  • FontExplorer X Pro crashed if the “License Warning” message was closed without adding a license while the “Options” dialog was also opened
  • Smart Sets did not work correctly when placed in Folders
  • The PDF was not correctly generated when exporting OpenType PostScript flavored fonts from the preview as a PDF image. Other image formats were working correctly
  • FontExplorer X Pro was not creating log files when activating fonts via the plug-in font request dialog

Known Issues

  • If a font that is missing in FontExplorer X Pro is re-imported from another path, the font will still be shown as missing (in red) after the application is restarted
  • On a multi-user machine (one machine with separate login accounts) FontExplorer X Pro can only be launched by one user. If another user attempts to launch FontExplorer X Pro a message will be displayed: "FontExplorer X Pro is already running in another user session"
  • Manually activated PostScript fonts do not display in Adobe applications when font activation is temporary. Workaround: select Activate fonts permanently (required when using Adobe applications) in Options/Advanced panel or activate fonts via the plug-in font request dialog
  • The auto-activation setting will not be effective for the QuarkXPress Plug-Ins. When opening a QuarkXPress document, the plug-in dialog will always open. If all the fonts are available in FontExplorer X Pro simply click on Activate All
  • The activation status of a folder is not correctly shown in the source list when all fonts in the contained set are activated. This only occurs when the setting "Show status when activating/deactivating fonts" is disabled
  • When a subscription font does not appear in FontExplorer X Pro for any reason, manual synchronization from the SkyFonts client does not cause the font to appear. Workaround: Restart the SkyFonts client
  • The Activate and Deactivate menu items in the contextual menu are not available on Sets, Folders or Smart Sets that contain both active and expired SkyFonts

Plug-Ins

New

  • Added plug-in for QuarkXPress 2015
  • Added plug-ins for Adobe CC 2015, Adobe InCopy, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop

Plug-Ins

Known Issues

  • Adobe Photoshop 64-bit plug-in no longer supports the "Replace" function in the plug-in request dialog
  • Photoshop CS5–CC 2014: Fonts in layered TIFF files are not activated by the plugin. Activation occurs correctly when converted to a PSD file
  • Missing fonts are not detected in Illustrator PDF files and no font request occurs
  • No font request occurs on EPS documents with non-embedded fonts
  • When using Adobe Creative Suite products to create new documents, Postscript server fonts that are activated on the server are not displayed in the Font drop down menu. Postscript fonts in an existing CS document that are activated on a server, will behave properly; the fonts will appear in the Font drop down menu and can be activated/deactivated appropriately. This issue only applies to PS server fonts, all other font types (TrueType, OpenType) work correctly. Local Postscript fonts will behave properly in Adobe Creative Suite products. Workaround: Update PS server fonts to TrueType or OpenType format

Server Users and Administrators

New – Requires Server Version 2 or Later

  • Added Kerberos support to facilitate Single Sign On authentication
  • Added administrator settings to hide each of the new stores on a global, group or user basis: Fonts.com, Linotype.com, MyFonts.com, FontShop.com or Membership by Monotype
  • Added administrator settings on a global, group or user basis to allow exporting of server Fonts
  • Added administrator settings on a global, group or user basis to hide the "SkyFonts" entry from the Cloud Fonts

  • FontExplorer X Pro encountered an error when changing the user password from FontExplorer X client to a Slave server
  • An incorrect result was displayed when exporting a non-downloaded Server Font as an image

Known Issues

  • After updating from FontExplorer X Pro version 2.7 to version 3.0, the option “Login automatically to the server” needs to be reconfigured if it was previously turned on
  • When generating a License Report the "invalid e-mail address" warning is shown even though the "send notification" option is not selected
  • A generic error message is shown if a disabled LDAP user attempts to log in to the FontExplorer X Server
  • Font Licensing: When a change is made to the available license count on a font it is not reflected by the "Last Modified" date
  • The checkbox status of imported users is occasionally incorrectly set after deleting the group in the FontExplorer X Server Groups panel

Before updating a server version always make a backup of your server files. You can use the backup function in the server administration section of FontExplorer X Pro

Important Notes

After updating the FontExplorer X Server version, restart any FontExplorer X Pro clients that were connected to a previous server version before logging in to the new server

Your server software license file (ServerLicense.fsl) from FontExplorer X Server version 1.x is still valid for version 2.0

Changes in Version 2.0.1

Resolved

It is therefore recommended to stop the FontExplorer X Server prior to updating the software in order to avoid the situation described here
