FontExplorer X Pro Client has been optimized for Microsoft Windows® Windows 7 and Windows 8 and requires .Net framework 4.5. It runs on both 32-bit as well as on 64-bit Windows Systems. Supported languages include English, German and French.

If working in a FontExplorer X Server environment, this client version requires FontExplorer X Server version 1.7.x or later. However, we recommend you update your server to the latest version 1.9.x in order to get the most out of all the great new server features. Older FontExplorer X Server versions are not supported.

Version 2.7

New
  • Added a new preview option to allow previewing fonts at the side of the font list
  • Added a feature to adjust the font size in the font list when WYSIWYG mode is on
  • Added a “Logging” panel to the Options dialog. Two settings allow logging information to be saved for the FontExplorer X client and for communication between font activation plug-ins and FontExplorer X Pro. The default setting for each is “Off”
Resolved
  • Performance issues around application startup, font activation and deactivation have been addressed
  • Fonts which were force downloaded and force activated were not activated on re-login if the “Force Download” and “Force Activate” options were removed from a Server Font Set
  • The names of “Conflict” fonts which are shown in red in the font list were not visible when the font was selected
  • If FontExplorer X Pro detected a corrupted configuration file during startup the application crashed. Now, a warning message is shown and the user is guided to the Installation Wizard which will set up a new configuration file
  • FontExplorer X Pro incorrectly displayed the status as "Licensed" after removing the client software license (.fcl file) from the application
  • While a font activation/deactivation was in progress is was possible to access other features which slowed down the application. The user is now prevented from starting multiple processes
  • On applying “Group Font Families” with “WYSIWYG On” the name of a font was no longer visible if the Family only contained one entry
  • Various improvements to the User Interface throughout the application
Known Issues
  • FontExplorer X Pro will crash if the “License Warning” message is closed without adding a license while the “Options” dialog is also open
  • If a font that is missing in FontExplorer X Pro is re-imported from another path, the font will still be shown as missing (in red) after the application is restarted
  • On a multi-user machine (one machine with separate login accounts) FontExplorer X Pro can only be launched by one user. If another user attempts to launch FontExplorer X Pro a message will be displayed: "FontExplorer X Pro is already running in another user session"
  • Manually activated PostScript fonts do not display in Adobe applications when font activation is temporary. Workaround: select Activate fonts permanently (required when using Adobe applications) in Options/Advanced panel or activate fonts via the plug-in font request dialog
  • The auto-activation setting will not be effective for the QuarkXPress Plug-Ins. When opening a QuarkXPress document, the plug-in dialog will always open. If all the fonts are available in FontExplorer X Pro simply click on Activate All
  • Smart Sets do not work correctly when placed in Folders
  • The activation status of a folder is not correctly shown in the source list when all fonts in the contained set are activated. This only occurs when the setting "Show status when activating/deactivating fonts" is disabled
  • When a subscription font does not appear in FontExplorer X Pro for any reason, manual synchronization from the SkyFonts client does not cause the font to appear. Workaround: Restart the SkyFonts client
  • The PDF is not correctly generated when exporting OpenType PostScript flavored fonts from the preview as a PDF image. Other image formats work correctly
  • The Activate and Deactivate menu items in the contextual menu are not available on Sets, Folders or Smart Sets that contain both active and expired SkyFonts
Plug-Ins
New
  • Added plug-ins for Adobe Creative Cloud 2014 InCopy, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop applications

Resolved
  • When opening an Adobe Illustrator document which contained a JPEG file an exception error occurred
  • FontExplorer X Pro would hang while opening an InDesign document if the FontExplorer X Server option for auto login was enabled
  • Manually installed  InCopy, InDesign, and Illustrator CC plug-ins were not shown in the Plug-in Manager dialog
  • FontExplorer X Pro encountered an error on loading the Illustrator CS6 32/64 bit plug-ins
  • FontExplorer X Pro would hang when a plug-in request tried to automatically launch the application

Known Issues
  • Adobe Photoshop 64-bit plug-in no longer supports the "Replace" function in the plug-in request dialog
  • Photoshop CS5–CC 2014: Fonts in layered TIFF files are not activated by the plugin. Activation occurs correctly when converted to a PSD file
  • Missing fonts are not detected in Illustrator PDF files and no font request occurs
  • No font request occurs on EPS documents with non-embedded fonts
  • When using Adobe Creative Suite products to create new documents, Postscript server fonts that are activated on the server are not displayed in the Font drop down menu. Postscript fonts in an existing CS document that are activated on a server, will behave properly; the fonts will appear in the Font drop down menu and can be activated/deactivated appropriately. This issue only applies to PS server fonts, all other font types (TrueType, OpenType) work correctly. Local Postscript fonts will behave properly in Adobe Creative Suite products. Workaround: Update PS server fonts to TrueType or OpenType format
Server Users and Administrators
New
  • Added information to the bottom of the LDAP import screen to show the import status of the selected group and the contained users
Resolved
  • Performance issues around log in, log out, font activation/deactivation and font download have been addressed
  • Users without export permission were incorrectly allowed to export Server Font via the Preview panel
  • When switching between the Account Management panel and the server font list, FontExplorer X Pro was flashing the messages and the window background temporarily went blank
  • FontExplorer X Pro was not showing the "Export" option in the server font list context menu
  • Long log-in times on the FontExplorer X Server occurred when more than 1000 server fonts were being activated
  • Improved the user experience when switching between the LDAP and Group tab or LDAP and FontExplorer X Servers in the source list
  • When attempting to import a new user in an LDAP group into FontExplorer X Pro, existing users that were not previously imported were incorrectly marked to be imported
  • The “Hide Server” feature was not working after reconnecting to a previously hidden server
  • FontExplorer X Pro did not automatically switch the focus to the client library when the last server instance in the source list was hidden
  • Addressed various User Interface and usability issues in the Account Management panels
Known Issues
  • After updating from FontExplorer X Pro version 2.6 to version 2.7, the option “Login automatically to the server” needs to be reconfigured if it was previously turned on
  • When generating a License Report the "invalid e-mail address" warning is shown even though the "send notification" option is not selected
  • A generic error message is shown if a disabled LDAP user attempts to log in to the FontExplorer X Server
  • Imported LDAP users are not shown in Account Management and status shows "not imported" if before completing the import process a source list item is selected, the changes in the LDAP panel saved, then return to the LDAP panel and complete the import process
  • Font Licensing: When a change is made to the available license count on a font it is not reflected by the "Last Modified" date
  • The checkbox status of imported users is occasionally incorrectly set after deleting the group in the FontExplorer X Server Groups panel

Release notes

FontExplorer X Server version 1.9.1 works with the FontExplorer X Pro version 4.2.x for Macintosh or FontExplorer X Pro version 2.6.x for Windows. It is not compatible with older client versions!
Before updating a server version always make a backup of your server files. You can use the backup function in the server administration section of FontExplorer X Pro.

Important Notes

After updating the FontExplorer X Server version, restart any FontExplorer X Pro clients that were connected to a previous server version before logging in to the new server

Changes in Version 1.9.1

Resolved

  • FontExplorer X Server users were required to login using a case-sensitive username. Login names are now case-insensitive which means that "Username", "username" and "USERNAME" are all recognized as the same user
  • The FontExplorer X Server crashed when multiple administrators were browsing in the configured LDAP panel at the same time.
  • If the name of an LDAP Organizational Unit (OU) contained special characters such as *, /, comma, square brackets, +, =, <, >, &, #, quotes, ( or ) then the users inside that group or any nested group were not shown
  • When an LDAP Group and its Users were deleted in the Active Directory they were not removed from the FontExplorer X Server Users and Groups after a scheduled synchronization
  • Fonts that were removed from the Server were incorrectly being shown in an exported License Report when certain filters were set
  • When Fonts were removed from the Server they were incorrectly shown in the License View when filtering was applied
  • The “Reset password” button on the server panel was disabled when the FontExplorer X Server was running on a Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (32 or 64-bit) virtual machine (Windows only)
  • The FontExplorer X Server status sometimes did not correctly change from "Starting up" to "Running" after the server restarted (Windows only)

Known Issues

  • The FontExplorer X Server may stop running when accessing an LDAP Security Group which contains more than 1000 users
  • Imported LDAP users are not shown in Account Management and status shows "not imported" if before completing the import process a source list item is selected, the changes in the LDAP panel saved, then return to the LDAP panel and complete the import process
  • Window Server 2012 – When updating the FontExplorer X Server software, several installer error messages will appear with the last message offering a "Retry" option if the server was not stopped prior to updating. If this message appears, wait approximately 15 seconds before clicking on "Retry" and the installation will proceed normally. It is therefore recommended to stop the FontExplorer X Server prior to updating the software in order to avoid the situation described here
  • The User "Real Name" may be shown incorrectly in the FontExplorer X Server "Users" panel when the name contains certain accented characters
  • Font Licensing: When a change is made to the available license count on a font it is not reflected by the "Last Modified" date
  • The checkbox status of imported users is occasionally incorrectly set after deleting the group in the FontExplorer X Server Groups panel. The "User" status is updated correctly and shows that they have been "imported"
  • When force replication is started from the Mac Master Server panel "Started/Completed" is shown instead of the percentage completed (Mac only)

For Windows installations we recommend Windows Server 2008 r2 or Windows Server 2012 (any edition) server operating system. (It is not recommended to use a workstation operating system for the server.) Minimum 2.5Ghz Quad-core CPU or better, 8 GB RAM, 50+ GB free hard drive space.
